ABMPD

ABMPD is committed to reducing the risks associated with both injectable and non-injectable drug use through community-centered interventions that prioritize health, safety, and social support.

Key Objectives:

Prevent Infections: Minimize the transmission of HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and other infectious diseases.

Promote Health: Provide information on safer practices and ensure access to medical and psychosocial care.

Reduce Social and Psychological Harms: Lower the risks of overdose, unsafe behaviors, and social stigmatization.

ABMPD Activities for Injectable Drug Users:

Distribution of sterile needles and injection equipment.

Needle exchange programs to prevent sharing and contamination.

Access to medication-assisted treatment (e.g., methadone and buprenorphine).

Training on safe injection practices and hygiene.

ABMPD Activities for Non-Injectable Drug Users:

Awareness campaigns on safe dosing and the risks of mixing substances.

Supervised consumption initiatives in communities where possible.

Education on overdose prevention and management of drug dependence.

Provision of mental health support and psychosocial counseling.

Community Engagement:

Peer-led outreach to disseminate information and build trust.

Collaboration with local health centers and partner organizations.

Sensitization of families and communities to reduce stigma and support rehabilitation.

Through these interventions, ABMPD aims to protect the health and well-being of people who use drugs, while fostering safer communities along Lake Tanganyika and in other areas of operation.
